I often have a "theme" song during certain periods of my life. They typically are mainstream, pop or country songs on the radio during different times. What triggered this chain of thoughts with me, is that I have a new theme song, a new release from Martina McBride (one of my all time favorite artists), I will list it in a moment.
1) I'm In A Hurry (and Don't Know Why) -- Alabama -- I just remember being in high school when this song was on mainstream radio. I just remember being swamped with term and literature papers to write. I remember just being up in my room replaying this song over and over. I also remember being with my hometown best friend driving down the road just singing to this song. This is one of my earliest memories of having a "theme" song in my life. (~1992-1993)
2) Somebody Like You -- Keith Urban -- This was just such a fun song that T and shared early in our marriage. It was just such a fun song that reminded us of each other. We would call each other whenever we would hear just to say "hi" and that we were thinking of each other. I know... pretty cheesy, but it still makes me smile. (~2002)
3) You Can't Go Home -- Bon Jovi and Jennifer (Sugarland) -- I just remember this song being so comforting with where I am at and missing home so much, still even 6 to 7-years later; homesickness could still really catch up with me. (~2005-2006)
4) If You're Goin' Through Hell -- Rodney Atkins -- I was in my management position during this time and we were going through survey after survey. We were significantly understaffed and I was constantly having to staff a position. I was working 10-hour days and pursuing my Clomid treatments and intervention. It was so hectic and I was so going through the motions at this time. I had no extra time but I just worked. I just remember telling myself to just keep going. As with many of these, I just kept playing this song over and over again. (~2006)
5) Anyways -- Martina McBride -- I had fallen in love with this song the summer/fall that we started with aggressive infertility efforts; Once again, a song to find comfort in. I also remember hearing it in the care as I drove from the graveside service of my Grandmother (who passed away just 1 month shy of her 90th birthday) to the reception. Once again, there was something just so poignant about hearing that song, in freezing weather, snow on the ground, in the comfort of the Midwest everyday life. (~2006-2007)
6) Stronger Woman -- Jewel -- I know not all of examples of being a strong women are not necessarily correct for me... but I just love the underlying message and I just remember it striking a cord in my hear while we were dreaming of success with infertility and then it not working out (~2008).
7) Ride -- Martina -- This is an upbeat song making the analogy of life to a roller coaster ride. Do I really need to say anything more? :) I just had to start laughing when I heard this song because I just kept thinking back to all my blog posts, and not to mention that Martina is one of my favorites. :) (~2009).
I am sure there have been many, many others... but these are just a few that I could think off the top of my head. I wanted to reflect on it because they do make me feel better and bring me comfort during times of struggles. I actually made a new playlist in my IPOD for "theme songs." Fun, fun.
